S P R I N G   B R E A K 

travis and amanda, my new brother and sister,
are living there.

we went to the mountains for some snowboarding.
it was a jolly good time! we shredded the sloped
during the day and played settlers by night.

many of you would have been proud of all the
seriously competitive catan games we played.

i will not tell you how many times i won. (wink wink)

it was the destination of my dreams,
and then my beloved clint took me to
spend our first days of married life there…

what a beginning!

in my time away i got married to the love
of my life, moved to a new city (BOSTON),
and have a new job. almost everything that
could be new and different in my life, IS new
and different. i’m adjusting and enjoying it
all quite well.

clint, my dear husband, is starting his second
semester at harvard business school. on feb. 7th
i will begin a travel nursing assignment at boston
children’s hospital.

clint will study a lot, so when he does, i will
sit at my computer and blog.

how do you all feel about that?

i said through the intercom.

unrecognizable garble came back to me.
so i buzzed the person.

when i opened my front door guess who was
standing there before me…

CLINT!!!

my fiancé
(i know you know who he is, i just like saying it. )

i stood there in disbelief for a moment
until he scooped me up in his arms.

he is driving from houston to boston.
he starts business school this month.
his road happens to lead through new york!
(boy, does it!)

yay for me!

this morning he and his saintly mom
will finish the trip, get the keys to the
apartment, and settle him in before he
begins classes august 18th.

goodbye marine corp. officer eubanks,
hello graduate student clint.

clint and bj, his darling mother, only stayed
for an hour and a half! (so sad!)  i had to work and they
had to get to connecticut. but we had enough
time to eat gray’s papaya hot dogs in my
back yard.

i miss clint terribly every moment he is away from me.
so it was a very happy and restful hour and a half.

what a lovely surprise!

ps-additional bonus: he was wearing his red
periodic table t-shirt. man, i love that shirt!

i   h e a r t   n e r d s

the love of my life, clint eubanks asked me to marry him!

i said,

“YES, YES, YES!!!”

in short the story involves—
an amazing dinner, a pink dress, a poem,
a BEAUTIFUL RING, fireworks (literally),
a dumpster, sonic, and a swimming pool.

i still need to get some pictures from the
time we spent together. as soon as i do i
will share them with you.

we are both so very excited … thrilled that the
Lord has brought us together. marriage is a sacred
and holy institution created by God and we are
elated and yet sober as we prepare for it.

CARRIE LOVE

turned 30 years old!!

there was dinner party for her in our back yard.

and oh, was it dreamy…

emily and i were put in charge of the decorations
and party favors.
you can only imagine how much fun we had!

blueberries and hydrangeas…did you know that i
love hydrangeas?

each guest left with a jar of blueberry cobbler
to remember carrie’s happy celebration.

the backyard hummed with conversation and
glowed with friendship and joy…oh, and the
innumerable twinkle lights also helped with the
warm glow of the evening.

we had carrie’s favorite mixed drink: whiskey sours.
they are delicious!

kari jo and carrie are making an abby sandwich…
she seems to be happily stuck in the middle.

THE ROOMMATES!!!!

dear merritt made much of the yummy food.
carrie’s sister who is a baker and an
AMAZING cook came to town for the party
and blessed us with some tasty treats including
the chocolate layer birthday cake with a
delicious gooey filling. hard to describe, but
perfectly understandable to the taste buds.

it’s kind of funny how this works for her…
the sillier she gets, the better the picture!

this is her sister, abby handing off the cake to her
husband, david. you should have seen carrie’s
happy face! it was beautifully aglow from the candles
as we sang happy birthday.

then the toasting began. we each shared a toast;
a memory we have with c. love, a favorite virtue
of hers…something. it was a sweet and special time
to share with carrie and several others that love her too.

at the end of the party i had to take a rest in the
hammock. it was the perfect ending to the
perfect birthday party.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARRIE LOVE!!

my beloved clint returned from his deployment in
Afghanistan a few weeks ago.

i hopped a plane to hawaii as soon as i could!!

the plane ride from dever, co to honolulu  was the
most torturous ride i’ve ever been on! my ipod died
on the first leg of the journey and as i was walking
onto the plane my iphone died too!! that means no
music and no tim keller sermons. i had nothing to
keep me busy, nothing to distract me from the 8 hour
journey to see my love after 7 months of separation!

i couldn’t focus enough to read even one page of the
two books i brought. i looked through my espn
magazine…that did bring some solace for a moment.

the movies were not good AND they didn’t feed us.
i was wholly unprepared! i was anxious and so i
couldn’t really sleep. at one point i turned to the
high school girl next to me (after not talking to her
for about 3.5 hours) and said, “I’M SO BORED!!”

i had to get it out.

it was the longest plane ride of my life!
(sorry for complaining so much.  i need
you to get a clear picture of my emotional
state of being at the time )

but the moment i walked off the plane, down
the beautiful, warm, sweetly scented open air
corridors of the honolulu airport, and into
clint’s arms none of it mattered in the slightest.

(can you see the little waterfall? yes, this is the
honolulu airport!  beautiful!!)

i was there.
he was there.
we were there together!

it was perfect!

so for the next ten days we
played
ate good food
hiked
sailed
golfed
beached
paddle boarded
rode around the island on his motorcycle
and
spent time with sweet friends

it was all so perfect!
(have i said that already? oops. well, i might say it again)

i stayed with mary ann rice, an army nurse and good
friend of clint’s. her sister lisa, also an army nurse,
just left for afghanastan as clint was coming home.
i stayed in her room. it was the biggest blessing to
spend time with mary ann. she is a sweet, kind, generous
woman with a tender heart bent toward the Lord.  i really
enjoyed getting to know her better.

(can you see the view? it was a gift to get
to stay in such a lovely home for 10 days!)

on the weekdays clint had to work, so i took him
lunch at the marine corp. base

i saw heidi and ashley, who are both married now!
oh, it was good to catch up with these girls.

i missed them!!

one of the highlights for me was the sweet
meals we had with friends.

clint and i had dinner with our friend rob.
rob has been a good friend to both clint and myself
since we met him a few years ago.  he was almost in
tears as we sat with him together telling our story.
(which he’s heard, but telling it together has a different
feel to it.)

we also had dinner with our pastor and his family.
todd and marry ann capen and their girls are so precious.
clint and i loved every minute of our time with them.
they had us rolling with home videos.

and we had an amazing dinner with the malone family.
they are dear to us both. they were my first friends
at trinity.  they befriended me and loved me from
the start. and did the same with clint. it was so happy
to be together. charlie and anne have a lovely marriage
and are wise godly people.  their children, will and
caroline, are equally as lovely. they are smart, fun,
obedient teenagers who i really enjoy being around.
it was a gift for clint and i to enjoy the malone family
together on my last evening in hawaii!

…and like old times caroline got out her airsoft (i think that’s what it’s called)
pistol and we shot at stuff in their backyard.

10 days…
two sundays at trinity, our beloved church
two saturdays filled to the brim with fun
four lunches at the “office”
five+ meals with friends
numerous conversations and laughs
…and not enough hawaiian sunsets

it was indescribably sweet.

the time together was just amazing.
seven months is way too long…way way
too long! may he and i never be parted in such
a manner again!

i left refreshed, renewed, energized, at peace,
deeply grateful to the Father, with inexplicable
joy, and with a very glad heart.

this was all manifested in the plane ride home
when i slept like a baby for 8 of the 9 hours!

can you believe this golf course?!!
the 13th hole was breathtaking!
it was all breathtaking!
we planned to play 9 holes, but ended up playing
all 18 holes. don’t tell julie, but i didn’t put on any
sunscreen. after being in the hawaiian sun for 5 hours
i had a pretty serious farmer’s tan.
oopsy!!

i might have made the other couple we were
matched to play with close their eyes for the
first few holes as i tee’d off. i was so nervous
with them watching that i couldn’t even hit
the ball! it got much better as things went along.

this is clint and his boat. did you know he lives on
this thing? he’s loved it! what dude wouldn’t, right?!!
it’s super cool!

sailing was so much fun!
but a lot more work than i thought it’d be.
the ropes and the sails and the steering  and
such all kind of get in the way.

we saw two huge turtles.
one asked for our sandwiches. we had to tell
him “no.” who knows what peppered loaf (or
whatever kind of meat that was) would do to
a poor sea turtle’s GI system? i’m not willing
to take the chance.  he probably would have
settled for some ice cream (it was a hot day),
but we had none to offer…to me and mr.
sea turtle’s dismay.

my last sunday we ate lunch in the forest…
well, that’s what it felt like. the food and the
scenery were both amazing!!

this is heidi (not my heidi, a new heidi) and chris.
they go to trinity. they also went hiking with us the
the previous sunday.

we spent some time on the motorcycle.
clint is a safety officer, and a good one, so don’t
worry. it was really fun!!! the drive along the
eastern coast was my favorite. in a car or on
a bike, it’s my favorite stretch of road on oahu.

pros and cons of motorcycle riding:

pros:
you get to wear black and look tough
LOTS of fresh air
easy parking

cons:
it’s troublesome to use a phone… look up directions or get un-lost.
if you don’t put your foot in the right place the exhaust pipe will melt your boot. oops.
a girl with lots of thick curly puffy hair might have a hard time getting her head in and out of the helmet.

clint had never gone to the beach just to lay in the
sand and play in the waves since he moved to hawaii!

what?!!

i was not about to allow this to go on!

about 15 min after we got to the beach, were
on our towels, and soaking in the sun he said,
“how long do we stay on one side?”
he’s a good student.

we saw another sea turtle, but he didn’t ask
for a snack, he must have just had lunch.
we played in the waves like all
good beach-goers should. clint even caught
a little sand crab. the little guy was so frightened
that he didn’t even jump off of clint’s hand when
he opened it to show me. after we played with
him for a minute  i made clint put him back by
his hole so he could go home and rest.

FUN FUN FUN!!
it was the best trip ever!!

goodbye wasn’t so fun, but i’ll see him
again in just one week!! (one week from
now…three weeks from then) three weeks
is much better than 7 months! i’ll take it!!!

i want to solve that problem right now.

forgive me for leaving those of you who
i don’t talk to regularly out of the loop!

clinton lance eubanks
is the love of my life.
he is currently serving as an officer
in the marine corp. and is deployed to
afghanistan at the moment.

he might be embarrassed if i made a long
long long list (it’d be impossible to make a
short list) of all the things i adore about
him and why he’s the most perfect man in
the world for me….

so i won’t.
i try my best not to embarrassing people.

but i will give you a picture to look at.

she is the loveliest of mothers.
i wish i could clearly express to you all
how wonderful and kind and sacrificial
and giving and nurturing and wise a
mother she’s been to me.

i am deeply grateful for her life and am
thankful for the life she’s given me.

and, can we all just say the obvious…
she’s beautiful!

i wish i had her freckles, her way with numbers,
her knowledge of etiquette (thanks for that grandmother!),
and her love for all that is sci-fi.

and i hope one day, when i have children
of my own, to have her feirce loyalty, her
unending generosity, and her sacrificial nature.

i love you!

in case you can’t tell, she’s the one on the left and
i’m in the middle.  silly dad!

this was the case again this year.

the ladies in attendance:

this year we opted for the formal dining room.
the room was lined with windows looking out
onto columbus circle and central park. (it is
located at the bottom of trump tower that
sits right on the edge of the park on columbus
circle)

the eight of us, all in pretty dresses found
ourselves sticking out in a room full of
suits. (very nice suits, i might add)

after we ordered the matridee came to our
table and said,

“excuse me ladies, i am sorry to interrupt
your lunch, but would you please do us a
favor?”

“sure!”

he said, “we are filming an episode of icoloclasts for
the sundance channel on jean george.
they are here today. would you mind allowing
us to film your initial responses to the food?”

“okay! sure!”

so over came two big cameras, lights, and
a boom mic.

our dishes were set before us and the head
server described each dish while another
server finished it off with a garnish or
sauce of some sort.

my first dish was baby brussel sprout,
avocado, and pistachio salad with a bit of
arugula and dijon dressing.  it was delicious!

as we ate the director focused his questions
at faith, the perfect person for this sort of
thing. he asked her to describe her dish.
as she talked

jean george himself came over to our table!!!!

aaahhhhh!! we all took a little gasp, but tried to
play it cool, of course.

he bent over to faith as if he were going to tell
her a secret and asked what she thought.
“this dish,” he said, “is my favorite dish!”
“it’s mine too!!” exclaimed faith.

after a short moment of conversation he wish us
well and happy eating, then departed.

when asked why we chose this restaurant on this
day the focus turned to me.

i explained that is was my birthday and this has
become a tradition. the director asked me why
i loved jean george. at the end he said, “what does
jean george mean to you?” i sort of giggled at
the question. “not the man, the restaurant?!” he
explained. it was a poorly worded question and
i answered it equally as poorly.  i’m sure some magical
editing skills will make it sound just fine.

they turned off the cameras and left, only to
return with wavers and consent forms. we had
to sign something and take pictures with our
form.

after a two hour lunch all of our plates were
cleared and the dessert menus were brought
out. a few ladies had plans so we declined
dessert. at the end of the meal they serve
the most delightful homemade marshmallows,
chocolates and mini macaroons. there is a
french word for this portion of the meal, but
it escapes me.

then before we know it there are four plates of
dessert on our table. (one of every dessert on
the menu) they said they wanted to give us a
treat for doing the show for them and to
celebrate my birthday! we were all wonderfully
surprised. and if that weren’t enough they
brought a mini chocolate lava cake and vanilla
bean ice cream…

for each of us!!

so we ended up with 12 or 13 dessert plates on
our table!!! we couldn’t believe it!! we thoroughly
enjoyed our dessert and by the time we left
it was close to 2:45pm.

i almost forgot to tell you that these ladies
each wrote a little card with a sweet word in
it to me and set them up around my plate
like place cards. i could not hold back the
tears as i read each of card and took in the
gracious words of encouragement from
my sweet ladies.  i’m sure it was another
day at jean george for most of the suits in
the room, but for me and my eight girls it
was a fantastically decadent day that has
ruined normal life forever.

after gathering our things from the coat check
a few of us slowly strolled home up central park
west talking over the entire meal.

it was a special afternoon, a gift!

this wasn’t even the end of my day!
i later had ice cream cake at meghan’s
with dan and bethany. there may have
been some dancing involved.

(raise your hand if you’ve played wii
just dance)

then my dear prayer partner heather brought
cupcakes to our gotham meeting that night.

and did i mention that i got a birthday call
that morning from my darling clint? (i hear his
voice way too little. i look forward to the end
of his deployment)

oh, it was a good day.

i felt loved.

31 feels pretty wonderful, so far!

(i will insert pictures when i get some)

over 50 facebook messages flooded
my page.  my phone was buzzing
all day with texts and phone calls.

i got a few birthday packages from
dear boosom friends and family, and
my beloved clint (who is currently in
Afghanistan) sent me gorgeous
yellow tulips!!

the Lord has given me not only physical
life, but more importantly spiritual life…
life abundantly…life forever more!
and to Him i lift up my heart and sing
songs of thanksgiving and praise!!

it has been a blessed birthday week.

O, HAPPY DAY!!

why not snow?!!

so i have welcomed all the snow
with open arms and cute rubber boots!

here are a few sets of pictures from resent
snowfalls.

these are of my back yard…isn’t it beautiful.
so white…so untouched. i could have stared
at it for hours…had it not been freezing and
had i not been still in my scrubs from a previous
night’s work.

these are of a snowfall about two weeks ago.

this is my neighborhood. i go into that subway
station almost every day.

the ideal ending to a snowy fun filled day
is a warm delicious dinner.
this night meg and i made taco soup and
baby grilled cheese sandwiches on slices of
baguette.  henry liked it.
