a party in a box

baby, it’s cold outside January 15, 2009

Filed under: everyday — lbrn @ 8:48 am

i’m about to hop in my warm
bed for a nap.

i just walked home from work in
the new snow with a distinct
bounce in my step, happily
humming along with harry,
michael, nat and bing on my ipod.
was i bouncing or floating across
the snow?  i’m not sure, but it’s
amazing how the magical fall of
snow can transform this tired
droopy-eyed woman into an alert
playful little girl.

the crunch of pure white under
my feet…

the cold flakes dancing around my face…

the satisfying feeling of making new tracks..

the stinging, no numbing, wind that somehow
is not so bad…even the slightest bit
pleasant, when it carries white flakes in it.

my new warm boots make this whole
lovely, yet frigid, situation much more
enjoyable.
(thanks parents…you are so kind to me!!)

here are a few snapshots i got on my
6-block walk home from work.

a christmas tree graveyard.
have i told you how i feel about
christmas tree graveyards?  i’ll save
it for another time.  but this sad sad
image was made a bit brighter and
more beautiful when covered in a
fresh layer of snow.

west 73rd and columbus looking toward
central park with the sun rising just under
the trees.
dreamy, right?

1-15-09-005
the lights in the trees,
the snow on the ground,
the flakes in the air…
i can’t get enough!!!

all of you living where it’s arctic-cold
outside today, take note of lisa’s tips
for the day:

*under no circumstance should you
go outside without
1. chapstick on you lips
2. muffs on you ears
3. something warm and furry
on your feet.  throw fashion to the
wind today.  heidi klum would
be the first one in a big ugly hat, long
matrix trench coat, and chewbacca
boots.  you know it’s true!!!

*at all times should the flap on your
mittens/fingerless gloves be pulled
over your fingers and in place doing
it’s job.  today is neither the day to go
cindy lauper on me or sacrifice your
mitts to make a phone call out of doors.

*drink as much hot cocoa as possible
today.  attempts to set a personal record.

**IF AT ALL POSSIBLE…
snuggle up close to someone.
i can already tell you i’m going
to have at least one snuggle session
with my dear roommate julia and one
at least one cates child.

now, abide by these handy tips and
you will have a lovely
colder-than-mr.freezefrombatman-day.

p.s. all of you in warm weather,
D O   N O T    call or text or email
or facebook or fax or skype us in the
arctic weather about how warm
and sunburned you are…
that’s just plain rude.

happy new year!! January 8, 2009

winter-holidays-08-026

this is how fabulous my holiday/trip
to oklahoma and kansas city was…

so good that i am compelled to start
everything with this fantastic picture
of my beloved julie in footie pajamas.

do you see the happiness, the rest, the
contentment, the enjoyment in her
eyes?  well, when reading about my
trip just think about all you see in julie’s
eyes and that will give you an accurate
indication of what a perfectly lovely
time i had.

i am currently sitting in my room
with my feet up, computer in my lap,
wearing one of my new ou t-shirts,
nibbling on a small piece of pumpkin
fudge, listening to jack johnson, and
contemplating the huge task of filling
you in on the past two-ish weeks.
(yes, pumpkin fudge…it’s delicious.
thanks rebekah!!)

i’m not sure i’ll start on this right this
minute.

but, i will tell you that i will soon
make my way to brianne and
meghan’s house for some pre-game
fun.  i’m hoping for:
*some mariocart wii
*actual pre-game show on ESPN
*snacks
*and maybe a board game or cards
before kickoff at 8pm.

wait, wait, wait…

you all know what tonight is, right?

only the biggestbestestmostimportant
college football game of the year!!

i woke up thinking about it.
i’ve known what i was going to wear
for days…okay, since dec. 25 when i
opened this gift from my parents.

ou-001     ou-003
so cute, right?!
good work dad!

GO SOONERS!!

poor brianne has to cheer for the
sooners, who she REALLY dislikes,
because florida is lead by tim tebow,
who she dislikes even more than the
sooners.

(cut to lisa’s internal thoughts.
“hee hee hee.  yay, let’s all yell
for the sooners…together!!!!
BOOMER!
SOONER!
“)

so, i’ll be getting back to you soon
with the stories from my time away
from the city.

and stay tuned for some great
pictures.

happy january 8th to you all!

correction:
brianne did NOT root for ou.
her hatred for ou runs too
deep.  she was extremely happy
to see the lose tonight.  it’s
started her year off right.  she’s
convinced that 2009 will be a
good year.

pan over to lisa blowing her nose
into a tear soaked tissue.
