as we all know, yesterday
was a holiday! julie and i
acted accordingly and
slept in,
took our time deciding what to do,
and went for a trip to the wallgreens
soda fountain.
[p.s. this soda fountain is a poor
man's sonic. it attempts to fill the
void. it dispenses vanilla, cherry,
lime, and raspberry flavoring into
any soda you choose AND it has
crushed ice.]
we were happy girls as we sipped
on our drinks, read anne aloud,
and made our way to our favorite
beach,
which also happens to be
a lot of other people’s favorite
beach too.
it was more crowded than i’ve
ever seen it. it was almost as
crowded as waikiki on a sunny
saturday with a good swell.
there were choke people in their
suits on the sand, playing ball with
a friend, body surfing in the waves,
and kids digging holes.
[note: choke is hawaiian
slang meaning 'a whole lot']
we joined the rest of the
known world who had also
come to kailua for some sun,
and lazed on the beach while
lathered in sun screeen talking
to our chums. okay, that’s not
totally true. i refused to apply
sunscreen anywhere aside from my
face…but julie was lathered.
she’s so good to her skin!!
julie and kari tried wakeboarding.
some injuries occurred.
heidi convinced eric and mikey
to grade her spanish papers.
they speak spanish and she
does not, which is quite unfortunate
since she is a permanent sub for a
spanish class at a private school
here in town. mikey laughed at
her students’ poor work. how can
they be expected to succeed in
spanish if their sub/teacher
hasn’t a clue?
they can’t!!
well, after a few hours everyone went
for some shaved ice on the eastern
side of the island. julie and i had to
bow out because i had to get myself
ready for work.
we did very little yesterday…
but that was the point,
right?
