on my drive home from work
i often call my mom or dad.
i hadn’t heard from dad in a
while, so i called him.
he was out of town at a big
racecar event in kansas city.
at one point in the conversation
he said, “you know, i had a great
time, but i’d just rather be with
your mom.”
then he went on to tell me how
much he enjoys being with her
and how he can fully be himself
with her and is fully loved by her.
i almost cried.
i think, HE almost cried.
(i am convinced that if the
conversation would have lasted
even a moment longer we both
would have been in tears)
it was such a sweet and rare
glimpse into my father’s deep
affection and love for my mother.
i was deeply moved.
oh, that the Lord might have a
similar relationship in mind for
me one day.
mom and dad,
thanks for the example of
faithfulness, teamwork, fun,
love, loyalty, companionship
and so much more
you give me and everyone else
in your life.
i love you!
