i need a new one.
when i lived overseas my
default song was
love in any language
it still makes me laugh to think
about it. my kind and helpful
team/family made me eat these
nasty cookies (even after they got
old) every time i sang the song.
i was broken of the habit.
when you are in a dark room
trying to make one of your crying
patients go to sleep your default
songs surface.
as i lightly ticked the forehead of
an irritable baby the other night
i knew a song would help the
situation. so i started singing…
“my bonnie lies over the ocean,
my bonnie lies over the sea….”
i sang in a half whisper like a
lullaby.
my mind blanked.
i had nothing,
but bonnie!!
i thought of cory singing the
weenie man song to the girls
at bedtime one night when
i was in town last month.
(see karijo’s post about it)
i sang a bit of ‘my bonnie lies
over the ocean’ and then a few
lines of there is a redeemer came
to me, so i went with that. even
with my initial poor song choice
it still worked.
she was asleep.
(i’m sure that’s what cory was
thinking too!)
all that to say,
i need a new default song,
bonnie and the ocean
will
not
do!!
maybe i should go back to
love in any language,
after all, there is sign language
i still remember that goes
along with it!
update: 2-26-28
i was just informed by julie that my
default song is not ‘my bonnie’ but
‘for the beauty of the earth’. you
know that hymn? she is right. i do
sing this quite often and i only really
know the first line of the song. it just
kills her.
i love old amy grant
as default songs.
but i also love ‘love in any language’
so you may need to stick with that.
right now,
mine is ‘jesus, youre my firm foundation’
since that’s what i hear cory singing
to the girls
night
after
night
after
night…
love you!
I am SO disappointed….My BONNIE???!!!! My BONNIE???!!!! That’s all that would come out of that brain of yours? There are so many random songs up in that head of yours. Think of the number of random songs that have popped out over the years….My BONNIE? It can’t be…I can’t believe the child didn’t start shrieking and scratching itself…the fact that it fell alseep is a M-I-R-A-C-L-E!!!
I agree with KJ…stick with Amy Grant. Doesn’t have to be Love in Any Language…what about “Thy Word”? or “Jehovah” oooohh, yeah…remember that one?
Oh, man it makes my laugh to think about Micah’s face when you would start singing Love in any Language!!!! Hahahahahahahahahaha……
